Anyone know why my screen says No SIM even though I put a prepaid t-mobile sim in it? Are there any steps to get it to detect it and set it up? I tried rebooting etc...

I think so. I put the nano sim in a micro sim holder then put that in a normal sim holder. Then I slid it in according to the sim outline on the device with the sim card notch pointing in the same direction as shown. Also, I put it metal side down so it would hit the pins. Is there maybe some setting I need to set to get it to detect it?

Have you tried it with a different SIM, eg from your phone? Just to make sure it is not the unit?

I haven't tried another sim. However, I did try this sim in a phone and it works fine. No data service enabled just sms and voice, but that shoukd be enough, right?

I live in Sweden and use Telia Soneras 3G Sim-card without any problems. maybe telia sonera supports 2G and thats why it works? In some countries 2G has been shut down / is being shut down.

Telia Sonera supports 2G if you have the right SIM-card. But my alarm connects via 3G because I can see the 3G symbol in the display of my W193 alarm panel.

Things to understand about 3G
Phone towers. 1. Each provider installs it's own equipment aerials up on the mast. 2. The aerials are directional (therefore only cover a certain degrees) and a provider will choose to only cover areas that are financially beneficial for them (eg their target audience) waterways, forests, basically any large empty area are not targeted. 3. Each aerial is putting out a certain frequency.
Devices. 1. Designed to communicated on certain frequencies eg 850Mhz, 900Mhz, 2100Mhz
SIM cards. 1. Enable to work with providers network eg 3G and whatever frequencies the telco is broadcasting their 3G on.
Diagnosing is a case of 1. Checking what frequencies your provider supports on 3G (google it). 2. Check what frequency the alarm unit supports. 3. Putting your SIM card in a phone that supports 3G (preferably not 4G) seeing if the phone is getting reception from the tower in the same spot your alarm unit is located. 4. Fitting a 2nd SIM card (a different provider card would also be handy) to your alarm unit seeing if you get a different result. 5. Assesing the results and maybe sharing them here.

I think, you may check frequency of your SIM provider and ask the device supplier if it works with that frequency or not. I was replied that W193 works with WCDMA 2100 MHz Anotehr model g183 also support 3G GSM network but it support WCDMA 850 and 1900MHz only.

Please check your device and SIM supplier if frequencies are same.
