[DANGER WARNING] - THESE POWER SOCKETS ARE NEUTRAL SWITCHING, ACTIVE LINE IS ALWAYS LIVE
The S71 is a sleek looking design (like most kerui products). It plugs into General Power Outlet socket and you can then plug anything up to 10amps into it and control it with your APP or alarm control panel, you can also program in the alarm control panel to automatically turn the socket on/off at a specified day/time.
Here are some ways you can take advantage of them:
1. When you go on holiday you can alter the timings of lights that are plugged into the smart sockets. This much better than the old conventional way of having a power timer turn on your lights at exactly the same way everyday.
2. Want to put a slow cooker on but afraid you won't be home to turn it on. Plug the slow cooker into the smart timer and either setup a time schedule or do it yourself from your phone.
Disadvantages of smart socket:
1. It doesn't have any waterproof rating and as such is not supposed to be used outside.
2. It is neutral switching. The only 240v device I know of that turns the neutral terminal off rather than the active. So basically any device connected to the smart socket always has Active power in it (talk about dangerous ).
3. Apart from the danger of a constantly live active. A big problem I found out was if you want to add the smart socket in parallel with PIR sensor for outdoor lights so you can time the outdoor lights but also let them be on PIR is you can't! PIR sensors switch on the active side (rightly so) and the smart socket switches on the neutral side, so you have a smart socket feeding the lights a constant active and the PIR feeding a constant neutral which just means the lights stay on.
