Hi all,
New here, was searching for some info on 2 new Kerui alarms I purchased and came across this forum. Thanks to all contributors and especially Russell for setting this up.
So I bought 2 units and accessories on Aliexpress, a W2 for my house (as a secondary alarm to the bog standard fitted alarm) and a W20 for my shed/workshop. I live in Ireland btw.
I received the units – the quality seemed fine bar one small issue with the lids of the D028 sensors (which I bought on ebay) which seemed to be hacked away to make them fit – which they still don’t really fit that well.
I started to set up the units, downloaded the app for the W20 and managed to set it up fine. But tried the same for the W2 (downloaded the W2 app) but could not get it connected to set up the wifi/app – contacted the Aliexpress seller, who in fairness tried to help (he sent me a video via email, which was a QQ email address so he works for Tencents/QQ who it appears owns or is affiliated with Kerui). So I eventually figured out that the W20 app does not work if you are using a VPN on your phone (Samsung Galaxy S6 in my case) – just in case anyone else is having this issue.
But I am having an issue connecting to the W2 and W20 app via mobile data (ie away from wifi) – they are fine via wifi (2.4GHz) when in the house but wont connect via mobile data, so I am doing something wrong/silly.
W2 – wifi is set up and working ok – pstn line connected from the telcos DP (and then on to the landline phone) – haven’t put in a sim card (and don’t intend to) – does anyone know of a reason as to why I can’t connect via mobile data? Can open the app but the alarm doesn’t show up.
W20 – wifi is set up and working fine – haven’t put in the simcard yet as want to get it set up and tested first before I go spending a small fortune on calls and SMSs as the sim is PAYG – might this affect the reason I can’t connect via mobile data? I would have thought that the alarm connecting to the wifi is how it connects to the internet, and in turn is connected to from outside?
I know it will only connect via 2G/GSM but I am pretty sure the (new) Three sim card will do this.
Otherwise all good so far, had only one false alarm on the W20 so far.
Does anyone need any more info from re my setup/equipment to assist me troubleshooting?
