Hi,
I've just bought the w2 and am going through the process of adding the sensors and setting it up. The instruction manual is a bit rubbish and doesn't explain what the different zone types are. I've learnt that instant burglar sets off the alarm immediately so have changed it to perimeter, but was wondering what all the other options do??

Hi Tom,
You will find alot of people have W1 (including me, although I do want to upgrade at some point) as it is the entry level alarm. But I am pretty sure the software is fairly similar on most systems.
Breaking it down; 1. Zones are groups. 2. Things that set of the group are call Detectors. 3. A detector can only belong to 1 group. 4. You can rename detectors in the app to call them somethings more meaningful like Front Door.
So with that in mind think of what detectors you want to group together. For me 1 group I called 'doors' and added all the door sensors to it another group I called 'PIR' and added all the PIRs inside my house to it, another group I called 'garage' and all my garage sensors door and PIR are added too it. another group I called emergency and added all my smoke and co2 alarms to it.
So now back to your question of what the option do. 1. Emergency - ignores all alarm states, if the detectors signals an event the alarm will sound. Thats why I put all my co2 and smoke alarms under this group. 2. Ordinary - When you arm you W2 all groups that are set to ordinary will set the alarm off if an event is triggered (eg a door opens) 3. Stay - If make a group stay, that group will not arm when you click arm W2 using stay, so example you are at home at night and don't want the inside PIRs to set off the alarm coz you are inside moving around, but you want the garage and house doors armed then you set the PIR group to stay. 4. Doorbell & Welcome - both do the same thing. if the group is set to this when a detector in the group is triggered W2 will make either the doorbell chimes sound or welcome voice. This is good for shops during the day, around pools to let you know if the kids have entered an area, areas that are left unattended such are garage with roller door open.
I havent used the other zone types and forget what they are for. But most of what you will need will belong to the above 5 events.
