I thought I would share this story, as it may help some of you........
So I needed an additional siren for my system. I looked on a well known online auction site and come across one that was significantly cheaper than anywhere else. The only difference was that this one was not called Kerui. It looked the same in every other aspect apart from the solar panels, which were silver. I took the punt and waited eagerly for it to arrive. It is the same as the Kerui, and comes with the same instruction manual, box etc....... I paired it to my system in a few seconds and was quite pleased with myself. It obviously had some charge as it worked without a power supply connected.
Being a nosy engineer, I opened her up to see whether there was any difference, as well as wanting to add an additional battery to extend the life as I was using this totally wireless. To my shock, I noticed that the solar panel was in fact a piece of silver card under the a piece of glass. I must admit when I opened the box on arrival, the solar panel did not appear to have any visible cells, which made me more curious. Obviously inside, there were no wires coming from the 'pretend solar panel' and the socket on the main PCB has nothing plugged in.
Had i not have opened it, it would have been a while before I noticed anything wrong as the battery was charged fully. Some people use mains connected and just rely on the panels in the vent of a long power cut...... In fact the first time to notice is possibly when you have been burgled, because it didn't scare him off!!
I have attached a photo of what to look out for. The genuine Kerui one has a black solar panel. There is nothing wrong with this unit other than it cannot charge the battery, so if you are using the power supply - this should work for you. It was nearly half the cost of the Kerui one.
