Hi all, first post. Russell, I found your old discussions before here, this is one of the major place for these things! I've been a ham operator since 1981, I have operated on 432mhz quite a bit.
I dipped my toe in the Kerui waters. Here is what I am interested in. No wifi. No phone. No connectivity. No apps. Just outdoor motion sensors, and outdoor siren. This is sounding sort of stone-age, I know, but here is the scenario.
My parents are old, and have a vacation place 5 hours from where they live. In the fall they are there a lot, but it goes for months unattended. It is quite rural, but there are some neighbors that keep it mowed, etc. Kids break in, mostly to (apparently) drink beer. There's nothing valuable to steal, but they are breaking in. No severe damage yet.
This place also has no phone line, no internet, and my parents are honestly probably too old to learn a phone app (I see lots of troubles mentioned). Being unattended most of the time also means that battery-operated gadgets are finite. So far, here's the plan.
The layout is that you drive behind the place to park, and your vehicle is pretty hidden from the road. I am hoping to just get a motion sensor and outdoor alarm. If you are sneaking around, an alarm is what you do *not* want to hear. We are not interested in trying to catch them, or prosecute them, just want to scare them away.
So far? I have a Kerui PIR815 motion sensor, and an outdoor siren speaker. The speaker has a 12vdc wall wart, and the PIR815 has a little 9-volt battery. I want to do away with the 9-volt battery, connect an AC-9vdc wall wart to the motion sensor. The motion sensor doesn't look terribly 'outdoorsey', I can get it sealed up, and run power wires for both it and the little siren speaker into a garage where they plug into AC.
I need to play with it, see what kind of realistic range I can get, could possibly need another sensor. There will be no waving branches, and this is supposed to be an infrared sensor, only trips on warm things. I thought I was ordering (this was an Amazon purchase) a couple of fobs to de-activate it, but it's not one of the ones with 4 buttons as pictured, perhaps it's one of the doorbell things? Little white thing with antenna and no markings.
The intentions of this whole thing is to just scare off kids while my parents are gone. While they are there, it's not a problem.
Suggestions? Other add-ons possible? Here is the basic thing I got: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OHCJZWQ/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
